Ubisoft Addresses XDefiant’s Declining Playerbase: It Is “Absolutely Not Dying”

Hard times for Ubisoft indeed

After drawing the attention of everyone who hates Call of Duty to the game by setting an accordingly “8 million concurrent players,” XDefiant has hit rock bottom. This is while with the lost player base, tons of issues, and lack of content for an online game, Ubisoft is addressing XDefiant‘s status as “absolutely not dying” by releasing its upcoming seasons and a fresh roadmap to review.

People were shocked by the release of a new hero-shooter game by Ubisoft almost two months ago. XDefiant was the one golden goose for those who were exhausted by the current shooter games with microtransactions. However, this was a flash in the pan, as the game’s best moments lasted less than two weeks.

Netcoding issues, hitreg problems, and you can jump and change direction in the air? What in the Harry Potter is that? Combine all that with the lack of game modes and a simple private match, and you’ll see the nail being pierced at the coffin of XDefiant. Now does Ubisoft believe in its game having less than 30,000 players across all platforms? No, they’ve released a roadmap that contains everything we need to know about the future of this title.

In a recent blog post by Ubisoft, the image above is shared to show us what XDefaint has to offer in the upcoming months. There are some good changes here like adding 3 new characters and weapons in the game, while also addressing the issues with the lag and hit registration being worked on. But is it too late to bring back this game from the grave?

According to Insider Gaming’s post, XDefiant “has been struggling to obtain 20,000 concurrent players across all its platforms” and that means Ubisoft has to do a lot more than seasonal content to fix their game, starting with the lagging issues. If I can’t play the game properly, what is the point of getting fresh content for it? Just so I can download and die behind a wall because the game didn’t register my movement behind the cover?

So if everything is fixed and new blood is injected, maybe the game will be back on its feet again. If not, and if the shutdown rumors are true, XDefiant will be forever lost and buried beside the other Ubisoft’s failed attempt at an online multiplayer shooter, Hyper Scope.

Amir is an absolute Call of Duty nerd, preferring shooter games more than everything. However, he does like to do uppercuts in Mortal Kombat and feel the NOS going through the engines in Need For Speed games.
