While many companies are engaging in mass layoffs, FromSoftware has announced that it plans to raise the salaries of almost all of its employees. The Japanese game developer said that starting April 2025, employees will see an average increase in basic salary of 11.8%. In exact amounts, those who have recently graduated will see a raise from around $1773 to $2047, which comes up to about a 15% increase.

FromSoftware made a statement along with the bump in salaries of its employees that mainly talked about how the company wants to create long-term value and to do that, the leadership is working towards a stable income for its employees, rewarding employees with a higher salary is one of the ways of implementing this policy.

This isn’t limited to FromSoftware only, because Konami, another famous Japanese video game developer, also increased its base salary for all employees last year. In the current economy where studios are shutting down and firing employees in bulk, developers in Japan are doing quite well in comparison.

The company is doing well as of late, because its release from 2022, Elden Ring, has sold well above 25 million copies. Although FromSoftware doesn’t usually make DLCs or expansions for its games, it changed that trend with Shadow of the Erdtree, a massive expansion that sold over 5 million copies in its first week only.

There have been some rumblings of a live-action adaptation of  Elden Ring that could be a TV series or possibly even a movie. With the popularity of the game, it does make sense. It was first mentioned by George R.R. Martin, the writer of the Game of Thrones series. For now, we have no further information on the project other than it being worked on.
