Gay Men Reassure Women on Hikes That They’re Safe in Viral Video: ‘Who Are These Divas?’

I do feel a little safer

There’s a popular TikTok debate called Man or Bear. Basically, it asks women if they’d rather be alone with a man or with a bear. It’s meant to open the conversation about negative experiences that women have had with men and why they’d rather pick the bear. A few gay men decided to comment on the subject by showing what they would say to a woman that they were passing on a hike to make them feel safe.

TikToker stanchrissss posted a skit of several men walking past the camera, whose point of view is meant to represent a woman’s. To ensure that the woman feels safe, each of the men will say something that no straight man would ever say as they pass her. With each passing cit, it begins to feel more and more like an instructional video.

By the end of the TikTok, the men are just holding hands as they pass the woman instead of saying anything at all. Commentators rushed to the replies to give their opinion on the sayings. It seems like some women would prefer it if a guy actually said any of those things.

The way I’d actually feel safer if a guy said “the view up there, stunning” in that tone”

I don’t know if I’d feel safer, but I think maybe I’d feel more assured. In the sea of comments simply reiterating whichever line was their favorite, one person asks the real question:

Who are these divas?”

Hopefully, anyone, not just men, can learn something about making others who are hiking feel safe in the wild. There’s already enough to be scared of out there.
