Another day, another embarrassing piece of “Karen” footage is making the rounds. Over on Reddit, a video surfaced recently of a mailman carrying out his day to day duties. Unfortunately, his task was interrupted by a passerby, who had attempted to flag him down, but he allegedly didn’t see. For the time being, we’ll just refer to the lady recording the footage as Karen to make things easier. As the postal worker emptied a letterbox, Karen repeatedly demands that he hand over some mail for a “Greg Harrison.”
“I need to see Greg’s mail,” Karen insists, as she continues to record the interaction. With a polite demeanour, the mailman responds, “Who are you?” To this, the Karen in question claims that she is Greg’s “fiancé.”
“Okay, if you have a request?” the mail carrier acknowledges, attempting to placate the irate Karen.
However, Karen doesn’t appear to have an official request. Instead, she attempts to snatch the entirety of the mail from the postman’s hand, saying, “Yeah, I need his mail.”
“That’s not his mail. I just pulled this from the blue box. That’s not how this works. I can’t just give you the mail. You can go to his house and get it.” the postal worker calmly responds.
In response to this, the Karen in question begins recording herself, stating: “See, this is the problem I’m having with him. What is your name? I need identification.”
The mailman then reveals his name to be “Troy Aikman,” though it’s very likely that this is not his real name, as Troy Aikman is a former American football quarterback who used to play for the Dallas Cowboys. Lastly, the video ends with Karen getting increasingly annoyed and irate, yelling, “If you would’ve just stopped at where I was at, maybe?!”
For those unaware, what the Karen was asking the mailman to do would’ve been a breach of the law and a Federal crime. It’s illegal to open someone else’s mail, which is a serious felony and could even lead to jail time. The crime even has its own legal name: Obstruction of Correspondence.
Of course, the internet has begun dissecting the snippet of footage, though it’s fair to say that the large bulk of users side with the mailman, who comes across as calm and patient in the video. One of the most up-voted comments on the thread declared, “Dude was way more polite than I could have managed.”
Others chimed in reflecting on the video, and many believed that it spoke to the “victimisation” culture that is prevalent in society at the moment. In regards to this, one netizen wrote, “Entitled victimization… hmmmmm where have I seen this before?”
Finally, a few users even purported theories that the mail she was attempting to retrieve wasn’t meant for her. “Immediate psycho stalker vibes. This person knows no boundaries and believes she is totally within her rights and it’s very off-putting,” wrote another Redditor.
Interestingly, the Karen did make a follow-up TikTok video on the subject, declaring that she was going to take the mailman to court over the interaction. “Troy Aikman, all I needed was your name, and I’m taking you to court.” Whether Karen does take the postal worker to court is unclear, but it’s unlikely to happen, as “Troy Aikman” appears to not actually be his real name.
