Shakira may be a superstar singer, but she is like many when navigating a difficult breakup. In an emotional interview, she recently addressed her infamous separation from Gerard Piqué, revealing how she healed. The “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker confesses that healing from her romance with the Spanish football player was challenging.
However, she navigated this heartbreaking phase with music and continues to do so. She detailed parts of this process in her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” album. “It wasn’t easy to recognize all the vulnerability I was feeling at the time I wrote this album and then to lay it bare. For many months after my separation, I had been silent, trying to begin my mourning,” Shakira recalled, adding:
“But I couldn’t really begin to grieve until I started writing music. It was my way of healing. And it continues to be. Grief is a process that is not linear. It is full of peaks and valleys.”
In her cover story for GQ Spain, Shakira reflected on the music video for her track with Ozuna, “Monotonía.” She noted the significance of her missing heart in the clip, saying:
“In this video, I walk around with a hole in my chest because that’s how I felt. It was my physical sensation. Then, when I wrote Session 53 with Bizarrap, that’s when I started to feel light.”
Shakira Seen With Mystery Man Two Years After Leaving Gerard Piqué
Shakira and Piqué announced their breakup in June 2022, with many suspecting the soccer star had cheated. Two years later, the singer appeared to be giving love a second chance with a mystery man. We reported the Colombian sensation was spotted with an unidentified man at Lido Bayside.
The pair were captured on video at The Standard Spa seated close to the waterfront while chatting heartily. They seemed very close and appeared to enjoy each other’s company. However, it was unclear if Shakira was on a romantic date or hanging out with a male pal. The sighting came months after the singer declared her disinterest in dating. Shakira claimed:
“I’m not thinking about that.… What space do I have for a man right now? But having a formal relationship, I think my kids would have to be very prepared for that, and their emotional and psychological well-being is the priority.”
As Shakira continues to heal through music, will she embrace love in the future?
