Developer Tequila Works finally announced a release date for its open-world adventure game, RiME, for Nintendo Switch. The game was released back in May on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC and received overall fairly positive reviews and scores. The Nerd Stash’s own review noted the “fantastic soundtrack” and “colorfully stylized environments” to be a couple of the game’s strong points. Reminiscent of adventure games like Ico and The Last Guardian, and the artistry and emotions found throughout Journey, Tequila Works has done something special with RiME, and the game is joining a plethora of others that drive environmental storytelling to new levels.
The game begins with a young boy who washes ashore on an abandoned island. As he gets his bearings, the story is then driven by exploration, as the boy has flashbacks about how he ended up on the island. With the guidance of a fox, you solve a myriad of challenging puzzles and obstacles in order to uncover more of the island’s secrets. It all culminates in an ending that will stay with you long after you have finished playing, and Switch users should add it to their collection.
RiME will be released on November 14th in North America and November 17th in Europe. Despite an earlier statement from publisher Grey Box that RiME would cost $40 on the Switch (ten dollars more than the price on consoles and PC), that decision has since been changed due to protest from the players. The digital version of RiME will now cost $30, and a physical copy of the game will retail at $40.
