Beloved (and Hated) Classic Monsters Could Make a Return in Monster Hunter Wilds, Datamine Leak Suggests

As the PC open beta files are available to be downloaded, curious players jumped quickly to uncover secrets before the full release drops next year. A recent leak from a Monster Hunter Wilds datamine suggests that a lineup of iconic monsters — some long-missed and some not-so-beloved — could be making a return. The datamined IDs show there could be five additional returning monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • Blangonga, white-fured monkey. Debuted in Monster Hunter Dos.
  • Gravios, the adult version of Basarios. Debuted in Monster Hunter 1.
  • Gypceros, a Bird Wyvern that’s armed with flashing lights and poison. Debuted in Monster Hunter 1.
  • Nerscylla, a sleep-inducing spider. Introduced in Monster Hunter 4.
  • Gore Magala, the mysterious Frenzy-bringer. Introduced in Monster Hunter 4.

For those who’re not in the know, Monster Hunter games use unique monster ID codes that remain consistent across titles. You could say it’s similar to the National Pokedex in Pokemon, except you’ll never see those codes in the game. Because of that, a mention of specific IDs could give fans clues about which returning monsters are going to pop up.

After returning in Sunbreak, Gore Magala is expected to appear once more since its body type looks similar to Wilds‘ flagship monster Arkveld. Nerscylla’s arrival is also being anticipated by many players to accompany Lala Barina, the game’s new Neopteron/arachnid monster class.

On the other side of the coin, we have Gravios, which is hated by most of the playerbase thanks to its hard shells. Fighting one with melee weapons can be a huge slog as your attacks will often bounce. Blangonga, the ice-shooting primate, is considered an ‘early game filter’ because of its agility, hunting in packs, and the ability to freeze you.

Adding fuel to the excitement, another leak about returning monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is swirling about on the ‘net. It claimed that Yian Kut-Ku, Congalala, Nerscylla, Blangonga, Seregios, Gypceros, and Lagiacrus could also join the Wilds roster. Nerscylla, Gypceros, and Blangonga are already mentioned in the datamine, meanwhile, Congalala and Yian Kut-ku have been confirmed to appear by Capcom. That left us with Lagiacrus, which is another monster with sizeable fans — it won third place in the last favorite monsters vote.

Only time will tell which of these monsters officially makes the cut. After all, a datamine revealed that Monster Hunter World contained a number ID for Oroshi Kirin. But even after Iceborne dropped, we didn’t get to fight the ice variant of Kirin. Thus, always take any unofficial information with a grain of salt.
