As the saying goes, money doesn’t buy class. And a recent viral video on Reddit shows two grown men in a neighborhood brawl, showing a distinct lack of class. The clip has captured Reddit’s attention, not least for the seeming affluence of the neighborhood. You might expect such disgraceful behavior in some parts, but it feels very out of place here.
The clip shows an adult striding through his house, past a grand piano, no less, to answer the door. Most alarmingly of all, the man passes a young boy on his way. What follows shows the man should never be considered a role model.
The man opens the door to a smartly-dressed neighbor, who proceeds to complain about something. Exactly what is hard to make out. The cameraman, however, adds fuel to the fire, suggesting that the neighbor called the homeowner a “douchebag“, before delivering a string of obscenities and threats. As the disgusted neighbor then goes to walk away, the homeowner attacks him. As a comment put it, “snaking him as he’s walking away is incredibly weak.” Also, it’s a cowardly and potentially very dangerous move.
What follows is a disgraceful neighborhood brawl, with the homeowner repeatedly and brutally assaulting the neighbor. As one Redditor pointed out, the “guy filmed aggravated assault and posted it online.” Not a good idea.
Reddit also couldn’t help but notice the jarring disconnect between the seemingly affluent suburban neighborhood and the unseemly fight. One comment echoed a strange thought that occurred to us: “Oddly this just makes me feel poor.” In reply, a Redditor glibly remarked, “You should have worked hard in your 20s so you can fight in nice neighborhoods in your 40s.” So, living the American dream right there.
Whatever the neighbor did to aggravate the homeowner and the cameraman, there’s no excuse for assaulting someone. The neighbor was clearly about to walk away, disgusted, when he was attacked. The clip of this unseemly neighborhood brawl serves as a stark warning that there are some violent, irrational people around looking for a fight. Sometimes it’s best to just stay out of their way.
One comment hits the nail on the head: “Everyone in this video is morally bankrupt.” And, from what we’ve seen, we’d have to agree. It’s also an alarming reminder that some people make appalling role models for children, regardless of their wealth.
