When you start your first journey in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, you won’t be greeted with epic battles or an engaging story. Instead, you will need to complete a personality quiz. Now, the game will tell you that you don’t need to pay attention to your answers and just reply honestly, but that’s a bit misleading. This short quiz will grant your hero a specific personality, which will affect your gameplay and progression. Don’t get too anxious, though, since the game will give you some options that let you change your hero’s personality during mid-game.
How Personality Works in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
You can get your initial hero’s personality at the start of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. An unseen voice will be asking you some personal questions that you can answer whatever you wish. At the end of this short quiz, it will tell you your hero’s personality, which will affect the stat growth of your protagonist. There are stats that you need to pay attention to in this game:
- Strength: Affects your physical attacks
- Resilience: Affects your defense against physical attacks
- Agility: Affects your speed and when you take turns
- Stamina: Affects your HP and how much you get when leveling up
- Wisdom: Affects magic in general, such as damage, healing, and MP.
- Luck: Affects how often you can dodge debuffs and status ailments.
During my playthrough, my hero receives the Lone Wolf personality. This attribute will allow my protagonist to gain Resilience and Stamina more easily. On the other hand, my Luck is not so good since it will receive fewer points when I level up.

How To Change Personality in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
If you don’t like the personality you get at the beginning, you don’t have to restart your playthrough. The game will give you two ways to change your personality. First, you can equip yourself with certain accessories that will temporarily change your attributes as long as you wear that gear.
Another way is to read books. Unlike wearing accessories, this will permanently change your personality, and you will also consume the book that you have used. So make sure you are firm about your decision. You can usually find these personality-changing books by examining the bookshelves inside the townspeople’s houses.
