When you first get your initial party, the game will throw you some random people to be your allies. Although they are fine, they could be better. If you are not happy with how your party’s appearances and gender, there is a way for you to customize them in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. You will need to progress through the game, but you can eventually reach a city where two NPCs can provide these services. Of course, you must pay some money since nothing is free in this world.
Can You Change Hero’s Appearance and Gender in Dragon Quest 3 Remake?
Unfortunately, you cannot change the appearance or gender of the Hero in Dragon Quest III Remake. Even if you later unlock the city where the two NPCs reside, they will refuse to change it. If you try, they will just say that you’re perfect the way you are.
Frankly, it’s a bit of a bummer since I chose the wrong body type at the start of the game. In my defense, they look very similar, and I only realized that I picked the wrong one when I heard the Hero’s voice.
How To Change Party Members’ Looks
While you cannot customize the Hero, you can still alter the appearance of your allies in Dragon Quest 3 Remake. However, you need to unlock the Alltrades Abbey first. You can only reach this location once you have progressed quite a bit in the game. Here’s what you need to do:
- Reach Romaria by stepping into the portal.
- Retrieve the crown from Robbin Hood.
- Get the Blue Key from the Pyramid.
- Pass through the bridge and reach Portoga.
- Meet the King and head to Baharata.
At this point, you can either go save the woman or go immediately to Alltrades Abbey. Either way, you will end up in this town eventually. This area is located north of Baharata. While you can head inside the building, the two NPCs that can change your party members’ appearances and names are outside. They will only show up during the day, and you need to rest at an inn if you want to skip the time.
The woman on the west will let you change your allies’ names, while the docile monster on the east will help you alter their appearances. Unfortunately, she won’t be able to change the gender of your ally in Dragon Quest III Remake. So, if you want an all-female or male team, you need to make a new team member at the tavern in your hometown.
