There has been a lot of recent information about CD Projekt Red’s nextย Witcherย title, which is enigmatically titledย Polarisย for now. Earlier this month, it was revealed that actor Jake Lampert, known for Andor and Call the Midwife, will be playing a character named Branko in the game. The reveal, an entry on the actor’s online resume, also confirmed that acting and voice work for the Witcher game won’t begin until 2025. However, now there is official news from the developer that the game is officially in full-scale production.
The announcement was made by Sebastian Kalemba, game director for CD Projekt Red, on X. He also shares his excitement for the franchise’s future and how he believes it will resonate with fans.
“I’m thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase! With new challenges just around the corner, itโs the talented and hard-working people who make me believe we can together make the upcoming Witcher Saga a remarkable experience. No stopping now! Stay tuned for whatโs on the other side of the coin!”
It isn’t mentioned in the post, but it’s been confirmed since the project was first announced that instead of using the developer’s own engine, they will be partnering with Unreal Engine 5. Hopefully, this will speed up the game’s development as well as add completely new visuals for an already gorgeous franchise. Last year, Kalambra has brought up the use of the engine to break boundaries in gaming and add new features never thought possible.
Future games are expected to also be developed using the engine as part of a long-term partnership. Unfortunately, there is no release window for when we can expect the next Witcher game. In fact, we aren’t even sure of the game’s full name since Polaris is simply the codename of the project.
