Area 99 is the new Resurgence map added to Warzone with the Black Ops 6 integration in Season 1, and now weeks after sinking our teeth into the fresh content, it seems like it’s not a legendary addition. A recent debate on X has this settling with players preferring the old Resurgence map where Nuketown houses were created, and the difference is just wild.
A recent post by ModernWarzone on X is a poll for players to choose between Rebirth Island and Area 99. Honestly, my lobbies start way faster with Rebirth Island in the new Warzone, but I didn’t expect Area 99 to lose 28 to 78 to the older map.
The two maps meet in size, with both allowing 44 players to jump into the action in each match. However, Rebirth Island surely does have more verticality, as Area 99 is more of a flat area with fewer unique POIs, a middle maze-looking building, and a super high ground.
Another issue I have with Area 99 is the visibility. The map looks clean for a Campaign mission, but with all the small details it’s so easy to lose the targets in between the mannequins. It’s not bad, honestly, it’s just that Rebirth Island is a better competitive playground for a Warzone experience.
Most people in the comments section agree on that as well, with @7saile_ taking Rebirth Island to godhood here saying “Rebirth Island is so much better, should it even be a debate?” @xFleXy_ on the other hand brings a piece of the Warzone Pacific headache for us by saying “This is like asking to pick between Verdansk and Caldera.” How bad was Caldera, I just can’t believe I’ve played Warzone a year on that island.
Speaking of the other maps, there have been no words on Vondel, Fortune’s Keep, and Ashika Island since the Black Ops 6 Warzone update. Some of these older maps are worth the shot, like maybe Vondel, which offers the highest player count on a Resurgence map. As of right now, Area 99 is a stayer for the BO6 Warzone Resurgence, with Rebirth Island on the side.
