Prince William’s feud with his brother Prince Harry hits a major roadblock as the brothers fail to unite virtually to honor mom Princess Diana in the spirit of Christmas. The rift between the royal brothers has prevailed since Harry and his wife Meghan Markle made the decision to relinquish their royal duties in favor of a life in the United States. While this decision seemed like an internal family affair at first, it became a global rift when the Sussexes launched their media attack on the firm, hauling major allegations against the royals, from claims of racism to physical assault.
Half a decade later, the royal rift has continued to prevail, even through Harry’s milestone 40th birthday, which seemed like a silver lining, their Uncle late Robert Fellowes’ funeral, which they both attended, and most recently, their co-invitation to The Diana Award, held online. Despite these occasional crossed paths between the princes, the prospect of a Christmas reconciliation remains vague. Prince William highlighted just how deeply his “hate” for his brother Prince Harry runs with his failure to appear, albeit virtually, at The Diana Award held on Thursday, opting instead to send a letter in lieu of his appearance.
Former staffers and friends of the royal who spoke to The Daily Beast attributed the future King’s decision to shun his invitation to an Award ceremony honoring his late mom to his desire to avoid crossing paths with his brother Harry. According to the sources, the brother’s inability to appear in the same virtual space marked “a sad indictment of both brothers’ obstinacy.” This ultimately drags both their reputation through the mud.
No Christmas Reconciliation on the Horizon For Harry and William After The Diana Award
One former royal staffer, who has worked for both Prince Harry and Prince William, aired his grievances at the implication of their very public feud, especially after their public show of “hypocrisy” at the online ceremony honoring the late Princess Diana.
On the surface, the royal brothers preached concepts like “kindness,” “positive change,” “hope” and “compassion” in both their addresses at The Diana Award. Yet, their dysfunctional family dynamics point at anything but those. The former staff points out the extent of this flop, and how the now overblown “family argument” has damaged Harry and William’s reputations, and portrayed their dad as “weak” for his inability to bend his sons. William, who is in line to become King after his dad bears the higher brunt in all of these, appearing “petty and ridiculous” in the eyes of the public with each show of unforgiveness and hate. The former staff shot,
“Whether or not it is the case, it looks very much like William refused to attend the awards after hearing Harry was making a video appearance. Is this how he is going to rule the country?”
An old school friend of the bothers also echoed these sentiments, condemning Prince William and Harry’s inability to put aside their rift for a brief moment to attend The Diana Award, in honor of their late mother. This very public flop only proves that not even the late Princess of Wales could mend the rift between her sons, contrary to the long-held belief that the royal feud would have long dissipated if Diana were here. Somehow, this dashes any hopes of a royal reconciliation happening this Christmas season, if ever. But what does that make of the British monarchy? Perhaps a hypocritical firm with influence preaching “world peace” while unable to tackle the problem from the foundational unit of society.
