A horrifying and totally bizarre video of what at first appears to be a kidnapping is going viral on Reddit. At first, masked men armed with crowbars pour out of a van and attack a stationary car behind. They seem to kidnap the car’s driver while smashing the car windows, traumatizing the female passenger. But there’s a bizarre twist that we never saw coming.
Every so often we come across videos that seem to beggar belief. This clip is one of those.
It starts off with masked men, all armed with crowbars and other metal tools, crouched in the back of a van. Suddenly, the men throw the back doors open and descend on a car stationary behind. One of the men jumps on the car’s roof, while others smash the windows in. Most frighteningly, a few of the men drag the man driving the car into the back of the van. The woman passenger screams in terror as the horrifying ordeal unfolds. When the men shut the doors of the van, she must have feared she’d lost her partner to these thugs.
But then, in a truly bizarre twist, the real purpose of the “kidnapping” becomes clear. The driver bundled into the back of the van emerges, unscathed, with a bunch of flowers and a ring. The attackers pull back their masks to reveal grinning faces, presumably happy with a job well done.
As the woman sobs into the steering wheel, inconsolable, her boyfriend sinks to one knee and waits expectantly. Perhaps because she’s in shock, his girlfriend doesn’t give him the stinging slap he so richly deserves. Instead, she collapses into his arms as the boyfriend’s accomplices clap and cheer. It’s unclear whether she says “yes” to the proposal but, judging by the boyfriend’s grin and thumbs up to his pals, perhaps she did out of sheer relief.
Reddit has been quick to point out the ridiculousness of the proposal “kidnapping” stunt. One user questioned what went through the men’s minds when they came up with the idea. How did they not realize it would traumatise the woman horrifically, perhaps for life? Pointedly, one Redditor suggested, “They stopped listening after they heard they get to smash a cars windows free of consiquences.” Others rightly pointed out how messed up the whole thing is. “The most f***** up proposal i’ve ever seen they didn’t even fake it on the car smashed windows everywhere.”
It’s hard to imagine the woman getting over the horrifying ordeal in a hurry. Perhaps when she recovers from the shock she’ll reconsider whether she wants to spend her life with someone who genuinely thinks such a stunt is a good way to propose. After the relief, perhaps the anger will come. “Happy enragement,” one user put it perfectly.
