New details regarding Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra have been revealed by Amy Hennig, this includes details about the game’s setting, story, and even some concept art. Originally revealed during GDC March of this year, as a Unreal Engine 5 showcase. The game stars Drew Moerlein and Khary Payton as Captain America and Black Panther respectively.
According to an interview between Hennig and Entertainment Weekly, the new game will allow the team to tell a story about a much younger and less experienced Steve Rogers who is still in the process of finding his feet. Another interesting addition is the Black Panther from 1943, a version we’ve only seen in the comics so far.
The developer Skydance Games has been working on Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra for some time now, and the studio is being led by Amy Hennig, who used to work at Naughty Dog as the director of the first three Uncharted games.
The story takes place in the World War II-era, as we’ve seen in the trailers, and wants to be similar to a “man-on-a-mission” movie. The story will be linear with unexpected twists, deep character arcs, and different locations, not too much unlike the Uncharted trilogy.
Hennig also showed a new concept art piece from Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra that shows the jungles of Wakanda in the game, which haven’t been depicted ever before. This is because, in the year 1943, Wakanda was hidden from the outside world and was surrounded by an impenetrable jungle. The people of Wakanda weren’t in the habit of getting involved in international conflicts and only aimed to protect their own interests.
Hopefully, we will be able to traverse this unexplored location through the paws of Black Panther senior. Although the older Black Panther, King T’Chaka, father of the more familiar T’Challa, would like Wakanda to stay hidden forever, his encounter with Captain America and the situation of WW2 will help the Vibranium-wielding king come out of the shadows and finally get involved in the matters of lesser men.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is being developed by Skydance Studios and will be published by Plaion, and is targeting a release date sometime within 2025.
