Angel Reese has changed women’s basketball forever, and there’s no doubt about that. The 22-year-old baller rose to fame after winning a national championship with LSU in 2023. During her run in Baton Rouge, the 6’3″ power forward racked up 61 double-doubles and quickly earned the nickname the “Bayou Barbie.” Her demeanor and unapologetic attitude on the court have earned her a lot of public attention. In 2024, she was drafted seventh overall to the Chicago Sky. Like her college career, she brought a lot of new eyes to the game. Although many love and celebrate her, Angel has gotten her fair share of hate online. But according to her, it’s because of the success she has off of the court. So, what did she have to say?
Angel Is Always in the Gym
Angel Reese’s first professional basketball season was certainly a success. However, she also faced a few challenges. Several pundits and sports commentators spoke about Angel’s game on the court, describing her as relentless, especially with the offensive and defensive boards. However, many also brought up ways she could improve around the rim. When the baller was not on the court, people still found a way to bring her up.
Throughout the summer, Angel was spotted with many high-profile celebrities at star-studded events, specifically the Met Gala. Her busy nightlife sparked strong emotions in some people, causing them to question why she wasn’t working to better herself like her rival, Caitlin Clark. But according to Angel, they couldn’t be more off of the mark. “How come I have to post that I’m in the gym?” she asked on an episode of her podcast. “What about all the other [players] who don’t post that they’re in the gym?” She continued, saying it’s because she lives “a double life.” But what exactly does she mean?
Angel Is Booked and Busy
If you’ve been following Angel Reese off of the basketball court, then you know the rising star is always booked and busy. As we mentioned above, she popped out at the Met Gala in the summer of 2024. However, that was just the beginning of the basketball player’s year. During the middle of her rookie season, Angel announced her new partnership with Reeses. This brought fans custom merch and cereal boxes. In addition to that, she signed a deal with Cash App and gave fans some of her most prized possessions. But it doesn’t stop there; Angel also shared that her signature shoe with Reebok would hit stores in 2026.
Angel Has More Coming in 2025
As many have seen from 2024 alone, Angel Reese is more than a basketball player. During her podcast, she revealed that she’s always traveling between sets and photoshoots due to her busy schedule. Although she couldn’t say what it was, the Maryland native teased more exciting partnerships coming in February and April of 2025. But that’s not it. She’ll be back on the hardwood in January as she takes part in a brand new 3×3 basketball league called Unrivaled. She’ll be joined by other familiar faces, including Jackie Young, Kate Martin, and Breanna Stewart.
