Ah, New Year’s Eve. A time to get together with family and celebrate the coming of another year. Or, if you’re feeling mean, to start the new year with a brand new family grudge. A video going viral on TikTok shows a guy firing a champagne cork at an older lady’s backside. Either it’s spectacularly poor judgement, or he woke up and chose violence. Either way, it must have hurt.
When you watch the video, it’s not clear what the guy was expecting to happen. He holds the bottle at a low angle as he pops the cork, aimed right at the older lady’s backside. As one TikToker commented, “He aimed straight for her.” Another agreed, saying, “He was definitely aiming that.”
The result is as you’d expect. The cork fires out, eliciting a prolonged yelp of pain from the lady. It’s clear it hurts because she arches her back and stands on her toes as she yells, “Stephen!” I think Stephen was in quite a bit of trouble for that stunt, although of course the others gathered found it absolutely hilarious.
Still, Stephen maintained an impressively shocked face as he proclaims his innocence: “I didn’t know it was gonna shoot out like that.” I mean, what did you think was going to happen? That is the idea of popping a champagne bottle cork, after all. The only blessing is that the cork can just be seen spinning out of shot. One TikToker clearly missed that, though, questioning, “What I wanna know, where’d the cork go[?]“
Some commenters on TikTok didn’t see the funny side, however. “That had to hurt. Not funny,” one stated, while another suggested, “That poor lady must’ve bruised so bad.” Personally, I think the guy intended to fire the cork at the older lady but was genuinely surprised it was quite so effective. A TikToker agreed with me, saying, “Not going to lie, that looked personal.“
The guy was definitely being a bit mean, but that’s not to say it isn’t quite funny. And, in fairness, it’s certainly making memories. Someone will surely bring up Stephen’s cork incident every New Year’s Eve celebration they have together from now on.
