NetEase’s superhero shooter player count has been dropping since its debut, but it might just have a secret weapon up its sleeve. Recent leaks suggest that some kind of an actual PvE co-op mode, not just bots in Quick Play, could be coming to Marvel Rivals. Along with maintaining its player base with a new mode and consistent hero releases, the game might just knock rival Overwatch out of the water.

Well-known leaker @RivalsLeaks dropped the bomb on its X account, claiming a source already tried PvE gameplay in Marvel Rivals. Then they claimed that another leaker, @RivalsInfo, uncovered a data mine tag indicating the co-op mode might still be on the table.

“Some time ago, I was informed by a source that they had experienced a PvE mode in the game,” wrote the insider account. “Today, @RivalsInfo found a tag suggesting PvE might still be in development.”

If the leaks are to be believed, Marvel Rivals could be about to outdo Overwatch in ways Blizzard’s shooter has promised but failed to deliver. The Warcraft studio was supposed to launch Overwatch 2 with the Story Mission heroes vs robots mode. However, after lukewarm test responses and Microsoft buyout muddied the project further, it ended up being scrapped before release.

The lack of PvE content in Overwatch 2 remains a sore point for fans to this very day. If Marvel Rivals swoops in with its own co-op missions, it should pull away even more attention from Blizzard’s shooter.

Still, @RivalsLeaks mentioned that the future of PvE Mode in Marvel Rivals is still unclear. It could be a leftover code from a scrapped feature or added in later seasons. Nevertheless, its players expect it to come during Season 2 and are already imagining some exciting potential.

Fans are suggesting the idea of taking on Knull and his symbiote minions or Doom and his Doombots in survival PvE battles. Co-op mode in Marvel Rivals could offer a narrative-driven experience, something both hero shooter fans have been desperate for. If these leaks are true, Marvel Rivals may truly end up as the game Overwatch never was.
