There are a variety of exotic animal species that attract attention with their bright colors, curious compartments, or shapes. Many of us can agree that Australia has several animals that we can consider unique and majestic, although sometimes these animals can lose their elegance. In a video on Reddit, that happened to several Emus who were strolling peacefully until they encountered a layer of ice that made them slip miserably. Anyone can blunder on the slippery ice, but surely, the fall was harrowing for these big birds.
Redditor Bigringcycling shared on r/funny a clip of someone filming a hill at a cold time of the day. Soon, a pair of Emu, the second tallest bird in the world after the ostrich, are peeking over the hill. The Emus calmly descended the slope, which, because of the cold, was covered by ice, which made these gigantic birds fall. The case does not end there because the birds carefully stand again to continue their “peaceful” walk. Or so it was if the ice didn’t make the Emus slip on every attempt to go down the hill in almost the duration of the Reddit video. Besides, these birds fall in the funniest and most cartoonish way possible.
Poor animals, but it was hard to stop laughing because they reminded me of Looney Tunes.
The Australians of the past would have suffered less if they had known that ice is the Emu’s weakness. It turns out that in 1932, the Emu War took place, and Australian soldiers had to fight against these birds. The reason is that a great drought forced the Emus to migrate, invading crop fields, and the farmers could not cope with the plague alone.
Ultimately, the Emu found a quicker way down a hill, but at what cost? Not only did they lose their style, but some goats saw them fall from above, worsening the birds’ humiliation.
