We all know that with the impending TikTok ban, TikTokers everywhere are panicking and making big moves to relocate to other apps in order to keep their businesses moving, the money flowing, and their entertainment needs met. However, we might have a bit longer with TikTok than we thought at first. With the upcoming inauguration happening in just a couple of short days, anything could happen, and Donald Trump has made a statement that he might just give us an extension on the time we’re allowed before the app is entirely banned.
In an interview with NBC News, Trump spoke about his intentions with the soon-to-be-banned app, and what he said might be cause for hope for some of it’s users. He spoke about introducing a possible “90-day extension” on the banning of TikTok, but he hasn’t made a solid decision about it yet.
I think that would be, certainly, an option that we look at. The 90-day extension is something that will most likely be done, because it’s appropriate. You know, it’s appropriate. We have to look at it carefully. It’s a very big situation.
As of right now, we don’t know what will happen for sure, but it seems we’ll know quite soon. During the interview, Trump said “If I decide to do that, I’ll probably announce it Monday.” That said, if you’re someone that uses TikTok on a regular basis, you might just have a bit of time to get everything in order before the ban. However, you won’t know until Monday, and that’s if Trump announces that he made that decision. At this point he very well could still change his mind and keep the ban in place for the time it’s supposed to happen at currently.
Extending the ban would definitely be beneficial to millions of people, as it’s how some people make their entire living, and taking that away from them could easily be the difference between them making rent and having to start over on a new platform altogether. At this point, only time will tell.
