It’s no secret that there’s a good chance one’s pets, namely cats and dogs, might devour their masters if the owners happen to die alone. That said, one dog owner from Romania, 34-year-old Adriana Neagoe, had two pugs that got a little too hungry after her unexpected passing. After not hearing any news from her for almost a week, Neagoe’s worried relatives had police officers and firefighters pay her a visit, only to find her corpse on the floor, half-eaten by her pugs.

The discovery was a shocking scene to encounter for sure and undoubtedly a devasting revelation for Neagoe’s family to discover. While a police investigation is still ongoing, there were no signs of a struggle or any other clear signs of why the pet owner died. As for the two pugs that found Neagoe to be a promising meal, they have been placed into a shelter, per The Sun. This whole situation is, of course, a very tragic event for the Romanian and her loved ones. That being said, followers of the news across multiple subreddits had some interesting things to say about the ordeal.

“Well, they’re not hungry, that’s for sure,” sarcastically remarks a user on r/Dogfree. “Don’t let the pet pugs bite,” says a top comment on r/ThatsInsane, making a comical pun out of ‘bed bugs.’ “My pug is so fat he would start eating me before I hit the floor,” jokes another dog owner. Many more commenters made light of the dreadful story, while several others opted to sincerely condone the pets’ actions of eating their owner.

“If I die in my home, I would also like to be eaten by my beautiful cats,” says one commenter, garnering hundreds of upvotes. “I would rather my dogs eat me after I die than for them to starve. I’m dead and not needing my body anymore,” approves another. Several more pet owners replied or upvoted in agreement, stating they would be “dead anyways,” so becoming food for their beloved pets would be ideal.

Despite the gruesome story being rather a shocking tale for most, many Redditors discussing the Romanian dog owner’s fate claim to be “not shocked at all.” After all, “It’s a well-known fact that after you die, your dog or cat will want to eat your corpse,” reads a top comment. And they’re not wrong, as the online peer-reviewed academic journal Science reports that pets will often “lick their [dead] owner’s face seeking comfort. That licking can quickly turn into feeding.” In other words, “some pets may not wait until their tummy starts to grumble” before taking a bite out of their masters.
