Chaos in Philadelphia as Eagles Fans ‘Celebrate’ Super Bowl Win: ‘The Absolute Worst Fans’

This isn’t celebrating, it’s hooliganism

Some people will use any excuses to loot and trash if they think they can get away with it. Take the Philadelphia Eagles fans after their Super Bowl win, for example. Footage is going viral on Reddit of chaos in Philadelphia as hooligans loot, start fires and get into fights to “celebrate” the team’s Super Bowl victory.

The first video shows dozens of people, most little more than kids, looting a van. Kids stand and sit on the truck’s roof as people inside throw out the contents into the street. Bizarrely, there seems to be little point to the chaos. Nothing thrown out of the van looks particularly valuable. But, as many Redditors pointed out, this just seems to be the way some Philadelphia Eagles “fans” choose to “celebrate.” One commenter was equally baffled, stating, “I’ll never understand why they do this after a championship.”

Many condemned the pointless chaos, with one commenter calling the rioters “trash” and another “the absolute worst fans.” It does seem a particularly ridiculous reaction to the Super Bowl, particularly as the Eagles won, of course, thrashing the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.

The looting, however, arguably wasn’t the worst incident that occurred in Philadelphia last night. More alarming footage shows a huge police presence in the Philadelphia streets as the cops try to curb the chaos.

In the video, police advance on the looters, pushing them back from the scene of the chaos. One of the “fans” lingers too long and is pulled to the floor. Most concerning of all is the fact a fire rages in the middle of the street, presumably because one of the looters set the clothing pulled from the van ablaze.

Of course, as is typical in our social media age, the streets are lined with people gawping and recording the chaos. And, perhaps because we’ve seen far worse over the years, it’s easy to become desensitized to the madness. But it is insane, when you think about it, that some people hijack a huge victory in a championship to revel in chaos. As one Redditor lamented, “What happened to just celebrating”?

All in all, we shouldn’t stoop to calling these appalling actions “celebrating.” There’s no celebration in this. It’s vandalism and hooliganism, essentially. We should call it what it is. Hopefully the more sensible Philadelphia citizens can help get their streets cleaned up soon and celebrate their historic win in a more appropriate way.
