Valve has announced the introduction of a major change on the Steam Workshop that allows mod creators to sell their content via “a new, streamlined process”.
The Steam Workshop has always been a great place for sharing mods, maps, and all kinds of items that you’ve created. Now it’s also a great place for selling those creations.
This new change will start with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, due to its strong modding community, and will slowly support other games. Some popular mods like iNeed and Wet and Cold have already adapted to the new model and are now purchasable on the Workshop page. The selection process is pretty much the same as choosing a free mod, but there is now a new option that allows you to browse the paid content. To expand on this new feature, Steam is letting users try The Elder Scrolls V for free until April 26th.
Considering the huge modding support provided by developers on the Nexus websites, the consequences of this new change on the modding scene remain to be seen.
