Henry and Hans can’t seem to escape trouble. Although they manage to get into the wedding in Semine, Von Bergow never shows up. To make matters worse, they start a brawl that results in them being thrown into jail. While Henry is forced to work, Hans is sentenced to be hanged for daring to poach. Of course, we can’t let him get killed. That’s why we will need to save Hans during the For Whom the Bell Tolls quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 For Whom the Bell Tolls Quest
After you’re released from jail, you’ll need to deliver three Charcoal Sacks to the shed in the For Whom the Bell Tolls quest. To save Hans in KCD2, you must meet with Sir Thomas. Unfortunately, he’s located in a room at the top of the tower. Before heading there, speak with the blacksmith. He’ll ask you to make a horseshoe.

Near the forge, you’ll encounter a woman complaining about locks. Speak to Fanka, and she’ll direct you to find the blacksmith. The man is too lazy to help, but he’ll tell you that you can grab a lock pick from a small red jar in the forge. You’ll need this later for the quest. Feel free to help the woman, as you can also loot the items inside the chest.
After you unlock the chest, you can follow these steps to meet with Sir Thomas and save Hans in KCD2:
- Go up the stairs until you find a door.
- Go through the door and walk past the store room.
- Climb up another set of stairs.
- Ignore the door and continue to climb up.
- In the next room, you’ll encounter a guard.
- Distract the guard using stone and climb up the stairs.
- Continue climbing up the tower.
- Enter the highest room.
How To Get Medicine for Sir Thomas

Sir Thomas is currently sick, and you need to heal him to save Hans in the For Whom the Bell Tolls quest. After convincing his sister, head back to the courtyard. The alchemy table is located in another building marked on the map. The problem is, there’s a guard who won’t move until he gets some food. You need to enter the room beneath the wooden stairs. This area is filled with bathtubs, but you can also find two dried trout.
Give the trout to the guard and wait for him to leave before climbing up the stairs. Continue heading up until you find a red door. After that, enter the first room on your right. There, you’ll encounter Katherine, who’s trying to unlock a chest. She won’t bother you, and you can lock-pick the chest to get the ingredients for the potion. Be sure to grab the Physician’s Journal on the shelf to your left. Read it, and you’ll unlock the fever tonic.
How To Brew Fever Tonic

Since Sir Thomas has a fever, you need to lower it so he can talk. The plan is to convince everyone that Hans is a noble so he won’t get hanged. Here’s how you can make the fever tonic in the For Whom the Bell Tolls quest:
- Pour wine as the base into the cauldron.
- Throw in three handfuls of feverfew.
- Boil the concoction for two turns.
- Grind and throw in one handful of elderberry.
- Throw in two handfuls of ginger.
- Distill the potion and pour it into a phial.
Once you have the fever tonic, head back to Sir Thomas. Unfortunately, you’ll still need to deal with the guards. After you enter the room, a cutscene will begin, marking the end of the For Whom the Bell Tolls quest.
