Have you ever seen a human-shaped robot move its legs around for the first time while hanging in a dark, cluttered warehouse? Well, I hadn’t either until today, and let me tell you, that’s one unsettling sight. California-based robotics company Clone revealed what appears to be a prototype for the world’s first synthetic human robot in an eerie video. The robot can be seen hanging from the ceiling of a dark warehouse, kicking its legs in a very human-like fashion. The movements are exact and almost appear as though muscle tension causes the robot to tremble at some points. Watch for yourself and see just how quickly you’ll begin to feel unsettled.

Robotics company Clone has woken up their Protoclone, which according to the company is ‘the world’s first bipedal, musculoskeletal android ‘. The synthetic human-robot makes use of Clone’s Myofiber technology and uses artificial muscles to move the skeleton by attaching fake bones, joints, and tendons allowing it to walk on two legs. The robot itself is also called Clone, and is designed to help with everyday tasks and errands in a modern household. These tasks include household chores such as washing and folding laundry, doing the dishes, cooking meals, and more. Of course, the robot in the video isn’t anywhere near able to begin doing any of those tasks, but it’s clear to see that it’s well on its way.

Commenters quickly disagreed with the product, with many pointing out the blatant signs from entertainment media not to do this.

“there’s like 500 movies that explaiun exactly why this is a terrible idea.”

Others were more excited about being so close technologically to having actual robots in our houses.

“Can we just make robots look like Baymax so they don’t look like they want to kill us at first sight.”

Personally, the robot doesn’t even look dangerous. It looks more unsettling than anything because it genuinely looks like a person in a morph suit. I can make out the toes, the fingers, and even the shape of the muscles in certain areas. In fact, it’s designed to have synthetic bones and muscles.

I remember back in 2009 when the world was first introduced to Sophie. We were all so incredibly shocked at what she was capable of that I’m not even remotely surprised at how far we’ve been able to come, according to this video.
