Madison Protest Shows Wisconsin Stands With the USPS: ‘Hell No To Attacks On US!’

V for Wisconsin?

The U.S. Postal Service is among the agencies targeted by Donald Trump and Elon Musk. This week, Wisconsin activists weathered the rain to let their objection be known. Though rural areas are among the worst affected by disruptions to the postal service, almost every part of the U.S. depends on the USPS in some way. Postal workers across the nation have rallied in protest over proposals to dismantle and/or privatize the USPS under Trump. Musk and DOGE seek to fire as many as 10,000 employees in the coming weeks. That wouldn’t just hobble a vital service that’s already stretched thin. It would also jeopardize the livelihoods of countless families. The protestors in Madison want to prevent that.

It’s no surprise that Madison, Wisconsin has joined other parts of the U.S. in protest. The postal service is a crucial part of Madison. The United States Postal Service has real problems that need fixing, but gutting the agency isn’t the way. Privatizing the USPS and putting some billionaire’s bank account ahead of everyday Americans isn’t the way, either. While Trump and Musk may be most concerned with how they can personally profit, the people of Madison are more concerned about their neighbors.

A TikTok by amanda_protests about the USPS protest in Madison showed a good crowd despite the rain. Red shirts and signs were on prominent display. So was the Guy Fawkes mask worn by one protestor. Popularized in the U.S. by V for Vendetta and hacker group Anonymous, it’s now a common symbol of protest and resistance to oppression. One sign summed up the Wisconsin crowd’s basic position, saying,

Hell No To Attacks On US!

Neither Trump nor Musk give any indication that they intend to relent. As long as DOGE continues to indiscriminately slash federal agencies, it’s everyday citizens who will suffer. Whether it’s a crowd of one or 10,000, public demonstrations like the USPS protest in Madison are essential for sending a message: the resistance has only just begun.
