Boston Joins Massachusetts USPS Protests Over Trump Admin Threats: ‘Hell No To Privitization!’

Delivering for Boston

Threats from so-called border czar Tom Homan aren’t the only thing on Boston’s mind these days. Donald Trump and Elon Musk have targeted a variety of federal agencies and programs, including the United States Postal Service. In addition to the planned mass firing of some 10,000 employees, the USPS also faces threats of privatization. Putting a social service as critical as mail delivery in the hands of some American billionaire? The obvious harm would be too much to bear. Today, Boston joined in the ongoing protests against the privatization and defunding of the USPS. The people of Boston depend on a reliable mail service, and they’re not about to let Trump destroy that.

Boston has enough problems without disrupting the postal service in one of the U.S.’s oldest and largest cities. The city already faces threats from Homan and ICE as the Trump administration ups its efforts to detain, deport, and disappear those it considers enemies within. Vocal opponents of Trump, Musk, and DOGE surely fall on that list, and that’s a fight that many in Boston seem eager to take. A sizable crowd sporting red shirts and carrying signs made their feelings about the USPS situation in Boston clear.

A TikTok by zhitaiyun about the USPS protest shows the crowd chanting, “Get up! Get down! Boston is a union town!” While the rhyme could use some spicing up, the sentiment is true. Boston has a long and bloody labor history, including violent police crackdowns and disruptions of unions. It’s because of that history that the Massachusetts city remains steadfast. One sign at the USPS protests in Boston summarized it well, saying,

Hell No To Privitization!

The government is already silencing protests on college campuses and abducting people like Columbia student protest organizer Mahmoud Khalil. The Trump administration hopes that by making protesting dangerous, it can dissuade anyone from standing against it at all. Trying to force obedience in advance is a popular authoritarian technique, and it’s one the U.S. and Boston will be seeing more of. Thankfully, Boston’s thumbed its nose at a tyrant or two before.
