Leave it to Greenlanders to take the famous MAGA phrase and switch it up. Since coming into office, Donald Trump hasn’t kept quiet about his desire to gain control of Greenland—the island that hosts a U.S. military base. Despite pushback from the Danish government and citizens, the Republican continues to forge on with his covetousness by sending his inner circle to visit the Artic Island.

Later this week, on Thursday, March 27, the second lady, Usha Vance, will visit Greenland. During her visit, Vice President JD Vance‘s wife will watch the island’s national dogsled race and “celebrate Greenlandic culture and unity,” CNN reports. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz is also expected to be in the territory. Ahead of the top officials’ presence, Greenlanders are staging a protest by using Donald Trump’s motto to spite him.

As seen in a viral Facebook post, citizens of the island are distributing a red cap with the words “Make America Go Away” written across it. The merch is a hilarious play on the infamous MAGA—Make America Great Again—red hat that Trump and his supporters often wear. In the accompanying caption, written in the native language, the Greenland citizen urged residents of the city of Sisimiut not to welcome Mrs. Vance’s visit. The Facebook poster noted that it was recommended that Greenlanders share a happy picture online, explaining why they love the U.S. However, they should do the opposite instead. The translated text reads:

“Vance’s wife’s visit is a charm offense. If I take a smiling selfie with them, I send a signal to the whole world that I love USA and want to be a part of it.”

The Facebook post concluded, urging residents to participate in a large demonstration and “stand firm and hold together.” Other Greenlanders and allies camped underneath the post, cheering in support of resistance against the Trump administration.

“Still hoping for a big demonstration when they come,” one user wrote.

“Hooray for Greenland and Canada for standing up to the convicted felon and rapist,” this netizen added.

“I love their caps. We don’t have any business trying to take their land,” a third ally penned.

“Once loved, America is now the world’s most hated nation. Once respected, America is now the world’s most feared nation,” this comment read.

Greenland’s prime minister has echoed citizens’ lament in a press conference with Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq. Minister Mute B. Egede described the US delegation’s trip as “highly aggressive,” saying it is a show of power from Trump. However, the president insisted that it was only a friendly visit, insisting Greenland invited the United States.
