Pets are often considered family members, and abandoning one is seen as unacceptable in the eyes of many. Unfortunately, there are still some people who are ruthless enough to abandon their pets. One poor soul who was recently abandoned is a pit bull mix discovered in a dumpster in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on March 25, 2025. After being rescued, the dog was sent to the Humane Society of Huron Valley for medical treatment.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department’s Facebook post, someone called the police to report an abandoned dog at 11 a.m. Police quickly arrived to find the dog sitting inside a dumpster in Michigan. They did not see a collar, and the dog was not microchipped. However, they did find a large abscess on the left side of his ribs. With the help of Washtenaw County Animal Control, the Ann Arbor Police Department was able to capture the skittish dog.

Abandoned but Not Forgotten

As seen in the photos, the Michigan dog appeared very docile and nervous. He sat among the trash, looking up at the photographer with wide eyes. The dog’s coat is mostly white, with splashes of black and a large marking on the left side of his face. During the rescue, the police used a blue mat with straps to lift the pet out of the dumpster.

The Humane Society of Huron Valley also posted on Facebook, sharing the Michigan dog’s story. According to them, the animal is nervous but very sweet and is around 10 years old. Both the police and the organization have requested help from anyone with information about this abandoned pet. “We are asking anyone who may recognize the dog or has information about its owner to call the AAPD front desk at (734) 794-6920,” the Ann Arbor Police Department wrote.

Hearing the Michigan dog’s pitiful story, many expressed their disgust and anger toward the unknown owner who dared to abandon their pet. “Jesus Christ. Literally throwing a dog away instead of getting medical treatment or surrendering him. I can’t. What is wrong with people?” one Facebook user commented.

A day later, the police shared an update stating that the Michigan dog is still receiving treatment at the Humane Society of Huron Valley. The organization also launched a donation campaign, where 64 people contributed, raising over two thousand dollars to cover the dog’s treatment. “Yesterday afternoon, we let this guy decompress and took him out for his first walk in the evening. He didn’t seem to want to go far but enjoyed sniffing around and taking treats,” the Humane Society of Huron Valley wrote.
