Nintendo has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated live-action Legend of Zelda movie. According to a post on the Nintendo Today app, the movie is years away from release, so don’t hold your breath. While no additional details about the film were shared in the announcement, just knowing that it is eventually coming should be enough to hold fans over. The release date for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie is March 26, 2027.

This will make it the third major Nintendo property to receive a film adaptation in recent years, following the success of Detective Pikachu and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The latter became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time. Making a Legend of Zelda movie a no-brainer.

The live-action Legend of Zelda movie was first announced last year and is being produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendoโ€™s representative director and fellow, alongside veteran Hollywood producer Avi Arad, known for his work with Marvel Entertainment. The film is a collaboration between Nintendo and Arad Productions and will be directed by Wes Ball, who previously helmed the Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Wes Ball recently shared some insights into his vision for the film, describing it as a fantasy-adventure that is a mix between “seriousness with whimsy”. He has cited Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki as a major influence, aiming to capture the same sense of wonder and magic that Miyazaki brings to his films.

In other Nintendo news, after the last Nintendo Direct for the original Switch, the next one, slated for the beginning of April, will reveal more details about the Switch 2, and hopefully some games for the upcoming console as well. The only game confirmed for the new handheld is a Mario Kart sequel, which was briefly shown during the console’s reveal trailer.
