Texas Mother Fired Shortly After Having a Baby, Company Blames Her ‘Different Cultural Background’

What kind of cultural background is acceptable then?

In yet another worrying incident that took place in Texas, a woman who recently gave birth was terminated by a small company without any warning or indication. Now, the mother is seeking legal advice on what to do since she was abruptly left jobless and now with a baby to take care of.

The information came from a Reddit post from a user named Astandarta, also the mother in question. Astandarta posted her complaint and sought legal advice in r/legaladvice because a lawyer was allegedly charging her $1,000 for just a demand letter and some legal recourse.

According to the unnamed woman, her employer in Texas terminated her employment agreement just two weeks after she gave birth. At that point, she had been working remotely. The kicker is the employer’s reasoning for why the mother was terminated, citing that she’s from a different culture and thus doesn’t understand the company. Hence, they had to let her go.

“During the termination call, the owner said that I “probably don’t understand the company” because of “a different cultural background,” and even mentioned where I’m from (my country is currently at war). I was completely blindsided — no warnings, no prior feedback, no issues raised. Just… done,” recalled Redditor Astandarta

She didn’t exactly state which country that is in the post, though it likely wouldn’t matter, as the employer would’ve let her go anyway. Apparently, even the letter was written in a generic manner, and thus, the woman suspected that the company was covering up the primary reason as to why they wanted her terminated.

As we mentioned before, the aggrieved Texas mother sought legal help, but the lawyer in question charged her $1,000 for a demand letter, which will supposedly mention discrimination based on national origin and potential violations of postpartum protections. So far, it appears the woman’s choice is to take the legal battle to the Civil Rights Division of the Texas Workforce Commission.

Is Texas Becoming More Dangerous for People of Different Cultural Backgrounds?

Prior to the incident about the mother getting fired, there have been a surprising number of Texas individuals who have been targeted by hate crimes and unfair employee terminations. Some employees have been fired for something as innocuous as using gender pronouns in emails.

Another Texas resident even shot his Mexican fiancé after Googling whether he could kill an undocumented immigrant or not. Even protests don’t seem to be safe against some of the more hateful demographics in Texas. Laws still exist in Texas, thankfully, though they are certainly becoming more and more ridiculous by the day.
