Looking similar to your relatives can be entertaining during a family get-together or reunion, but it becomes much less amusing in a judicial court. That said, a California man was charged with running a red light and called into court on the matter to be examined by a judge. “I got one of those red-light camera tickets with a photo of a family member running a red light,” he stated in a post on Reddit. “I went to get it dismissed, but the judge said it looked too similar to me, and now I have to go back.”

“The thing is, it’s not even my car,” he continued before going on to say that he wasn’t in the car at all at the time of the ticket. Another plot twist is that he claims to not even have a driver’s license. “I honestly have no clue why I got the ticket in the first place,” the accused man protests. Garnering over two thousand upvotes of agreement, the top comment reads, “You are going to have to tell the judge who was driving if your defense is it wasn’t you.”

Needless to say, the situation had Redditors baffled. “If it’s not your car and not registered to you, then the police have obviously been given you as the named driver at the time by the registered keeper. How else would the ticket be against you?!” exclaims a user in disbelief. “The fact pattern the OP is claiming here makes no sense,” another adds. “To me, it seems like I was chosen by random,” the California man said in response. “I haven’t even ever gotten in trouble with the law before. I’ve never done anything law or court-related, so I’m hoping I can bring all this up.”

A few commenters recall how a similar situation happened to them involving an incorrectly charged traffic ticket. One said it was simply because their aunt decided to wear glasses on the day she received the ticket, but the commenter was flagged instead. Because “she doesn’t have glasses listed on her license, they found a family member who resembles the photo who has a glasses designation on their license (me).” Like OP’s story in the post, people thought such an occurrence to be unbelievable. “That’s insane! How can that be enough evidence to stick that on you??” questioned a reply.

Whatever the case, it’s highly likely OP will be dismissed since he doesn’t have a car, license, or criminal record related to traffic laws. Still, it’s beyond bizarre that he would be flagged, not to mention the unreasonable judge to say he should be called into court again because his appearance is too similar to the driver.
