This bride needs to check her privilege.

There’s a lot to plan for when it comes to weddings, so naturally, the bride and groom can sometimes get a little stressed. In a recent Reddit post, one bridesmaid — one of five planned for her friend’s destination Aruba wedding — shares her own nightmare “Bridezilla” wedding story, when she says one of the other bridesmaids’ husbands got shot in a case of mistaken identity a few months before the ceremony. Naturally, with her husband recovering from a gunshot wound, and with a bad case of “PTSD,” according to the post, the bridesmaid said she could no longer be a part of the wedding. The bride, however, won’t accept the change of plans.

According to the Reddit post, the bridesmaid told others involved in the wedding that her husband was still recovering in the hospital. The bridesmaid informed the group she could no longer take part in the wedding or any pre-wedding events. She could no longer afford it due to the medical bills and time off caring for her husband. Given his current condition, she added, she also didn’t want him to travel.

The trip will be “healing,” the bride said

But in a group text, the bride responded the trip would be “healing” and “vitamin sea” is just what her husband needs. The woman’s husband should recover from the gunshot wound in a matter of months, the bride said. According to the post, the bridesmaid’s husband will need six months to a year of physical therapy. She also said both the bridesmaid and her husband are using FMLA (Federal Medical Leave Act) to pay their bills. “How insane is this?” the post adds. “It’s just a wedding!“

Supporters rushed to the comment section to tell their own Bridezilla stories, but one comment said, “Oh my god. This takes the cake WOW.” Some commenters recommended taking the bride aside, telling her “We love you, but… this is how it is,” anticipating the bride might respond, “OMG you are so right, I’ll reach out and [apologize].”

Others, however, recommended the direct approach: “Do it in the group chat where she put her bulls—.  I’m shocked no one already did.  I would have immediately said something like ‘What the actual f—, bride!’  Take a minute to really think about what you just said and then come back,’” one comment said. Or as one comment put it, that approach, “Directly addresses the issue,” allowing time for the bride to correct the behavior and mend things. How would you handle the situation?
