An assistant principal at a Polk County middle school in Florida has taken discipline to an inappropriate level. The educator, Dr. Kevia Lark, was caught subjecting a 13-year-old male student to a lewd act. Lark was arrested after the school’s principal informed the Sheriff’s office of the incident.
Two eyewitnesses recounted what they saw when the boy was sent to Lark’s office for throwing crumpled paper in class. The onlookers said the teacher placed her legs on the boy’s lap and ordered him to rub her feet “since he didn’t have anything better to do with his hands.”
Another witness added that she heard the woman tell the child to “rub her feet like he loved her.” Further revelations from what witnesses heard disclosed Lark’s intention. According to one onlooker, the woman said, “She was doing this so he would know what foreplay is for when he gets a girlfriend.”
The victim revealed that the educator said inappropriate words to him, calling him a “sexy chocolate.” While the administrator admitted her actions were wrong, she denied saying anything improperly to the child. A detective for the case said the 53-year-old woman initially claimed her actions were a joke and an attempt to humble the student.
Per WFLA, The detective admonished Lark in a statement that read, “It is completely inappropriate for a 53-year-old woman to act and talk like this to a middle school boy. It’s even worse given that this was an assistant principal and her student.”
Additionally, the superintendent for Polk County Public Schools condemned the incident and credited the principal for reporting the case.
Lark was charged with lewd/lascivious conduct and a lewd offense against a student. A spokesperson for Polk County schools said that the district was in the process of terminating her employment.
Florida Teacher Fired For Using Student’s Nickname
Earlier this month, another educator in Florida was fired, although not on grounds of lewd conduct. As we previously reported, the teacher’s contract was terminated after she used the name a student preferred without the parent’s consent.
A law in Florida provides that teachers are to use a student’s preferred name only with parental approval. However, the teacher, Melissa Calhoun, breached the law, and as such, the district chose not to renew her ten-month contract.
More and more cases of teachers being fired are making headlines. While some situations seem unfair, the incident between Dr.Kevia Lark and her student is a frightening reminder that there are real cases of sexual abuse between teachers and students.
Hopefully, those perpetrators would be caught and punished.
