Some happy thieves have managed to get away with 600 lbs of marijuana locked up in the evidence storage of the Colorado State Patrol. So far, the authorities haven’t caught wind of any perpetrators yet and are still on the search, though the rather bold weed burglary against the Colorado police has certainly raised some eyebrows.

The incident happened back on April 4 when a Colorado State Patrol technician discovered that the gate in their secure parking lot was broken. This parking lot just so happens to lead into the evidence storage for Arapahoe County. The storage also contained a trailer filled with large caches of marijuana, which were now nowhere to be found.

Apparently, the trailer, which contained 600 lbs of marijuana ready-made for smoking, was seized as part of a highway drug investigation. The stash was then scheduled to be destroyed, though for some reason, there was no active court case or criminal investigations linked to the marijuana. Other details regarding the drug seizure were also apparently scarce.

Upon further investigation by the Colorado State Police, they found out that the suspects drove a 1999-2005 Chevrolet Silverado and a white 2007 Honda CR-V. Additionally, the State Patrol discovered that their evidence storage had been raided on April 1, three days before they discovered the weed had been stolen.

“It has been determined that the suspects first came to the site after dark on the evening of April 1 and used a power tool to remove a lock on the gate and a lock on the secured trailer,” according to the Colorado State Patrol statement, thanks to The Colorado Sun for the transcript.

Thus, the break-in has prompted the State Patrol to tighten its security and review its internal policies and protocols to check if violations occurred. The Colorado State Police has also determined that they have gaps in the evidence facility’s security process and are working on improvements.

Who Took the Weed?

Again, no suspect has been caught, and it appears the authorities are having a hard time locating the two getaway vehicles used in the thievery. It also wasn’t clear how the thieves managed to haul and take 600 lbs of marijuana, much less get away with it. While recreational marijuana is also legal in Colorado, there are still some cases of smuggled or black market weed that gets circulated around the state.

Some Redditors have brought their own jokes and theories about the stolen weed stash, and the most obvious ones point out that the weed, which was slated for destruction anyway, would get burned up just as it was destined to be. Others pointed out that the stolen weed was rather timely since it’s less than two weeks away from April 20 or 4/20.

“Be on the lookout for a rookie raiding your local 7/11!” insinuated Redditor notred369

“No reason to worry. It’ll wind up being burned,” assured Redditor Silly-Platform9829

“Just in time for the 4/20 holiday,” celebrated Redditor 04ddm
