A beekeeper in North Carolina feels the sting as he discovers that he is projected to lose approximately 50% of his annual revenue. He didn’t realize that these new implementations would end his partnership with various programs and cost him more money to have foreign materials imported. Now, he’s paying the price for his vote with $150,000.
Jim Hartman is an army veteran who owns his honey business, Secret Garden Bees, in North Carolina. His business relies on materials from other countries, such as packing bottles from Taiwan and sealant corks from Portugal. Because the tariffs affect the items coming into the United States, he is looking towards spending an additional $50,000 to $60,000 to bring those items in.

You read that correctly. Despite facing such financial hardships, Hartman does not blame Donald Trump for this economic repercussion. Sure, he’s frustrated about potentially being unable to pay for his living space and feed his family, much like the rest of us are, but he doesn’t blame the people directly responsible for it. That makes a lot of sense. He did admit that this particular event is pushing him ‘left.’
Unfortunately, this situation follows a broader trend among Republican farmers and small business owners now grappling with the Presidential administration’s decisions. It seems as though research was not done beforehand into precisely what the President meant when he said he would swiftly implement various ideologies that don’t help the everyday person.
Hopefully, Hartman can find a way to avoid losing so much money by purchasing American bottles and corks and finding new programs to sell honey to. I also hope that when the next election comes around, he thinks a little differently about who his vote is going to.
