South Carolina Restaurant Owner Tries Bullying Customers to Pay for Food Never Served: ‘They Weren’t Refusing to Pay’

That’s terrible behavior

I love a good, old-fashioned case of realizing you’re wrong far after already embarrassing yourself. Today’s episode of ‘The Loud and Unprofessional’ features a restaurant owner in South Carolina who tried publicly strong-arming a customer into paying. Now, what were the customers refusing to pay for? A meal of pork chops that they quite literally never received.

Instead of verifying the situation personally, he assumed that the customers were trying to dine and dash, and he attempted to embarrass them in front of the entire restaurant. However, when the woman who was being accused had a chance to explain, the restaurant owner slowly realized he was in the wrong. I really don’t understand some people these days.

The restaurant, identified in the comments as The Grill in Manning, South Carolina, had actually served the customers the pork chops they ordered. However, the steak was not to their standards, so they had it sent back to the kitchen at the beginning of their meal. So, it’s completely understandable that the staff be expected to have it either removed from the receipt or remade.

“I’m on the couples side! This was unprofessional of the owner. They weren’t refusing to pay.”

In the video mentioned above, you can see the situation unfold as the restaurant owner gives the customers a smug smile during the entire exchange. However, as the argument progressed, the restaurant owner gradually began to understand why the customers were upset. After the customers posted a few more videos explaining their situation, the owner begrudgingly removed the meal from their total bill.

The comment section is flooded with viewers criticizing the restaurant’s actions. No matter how angry a situation might make you, as a business owner, you should know how to react appropriately to any situation. I can only hope that he gave the customer some sort of additional meal or voucher as an apology for his behavior. This is truly unacceptable behavior from a place like this.

Personally, I don’t think I could ever return to a restaurant that tried to so blatantly rip me off and just hope I stayed passive about it. At the end of the day, this really underscores the hardships that restaurant waitstaff have to deal with every day. It’s very likely that the pork chops being sent back were documented, but there is no arguing the word of the person signing your paycheck at the end of the week.
