Florida Bride Didn’t Want to Be Late for Her Big Day, ‘The Bride’s Driver Now Has a Mandatory Court Date’

No event is worth speeding over

A Florida bride didn’t want her soon-to-be-husband thinking that she had cold feet. So, her driver stepped on the gas, and led them straight to a court appearance. A video shared by the Port St. Lucie Police Department showed that it’s never a good idea to speed, even if it’s for something as important as your wedding day. You never know if a cop will be just around the corner to hold you up for a ticket.

The vehicle was pulled over going an astounding 105 mph on the Crosstown Expressway in Port St. Lucie. Police captioned the video, “The old saying goes, rain on your wedding day is good luck! Well on this sunny day, the bride’s driver now has a mandatory court date in front of a judge.” The Florida bride was, allegedly, already running late to her wedding before the speeding event. When the vehicle was pulled over, they were already late and still had a 25-minute drive.

The police officer who pulled them over had some sympathy on her big day. “Just give me a minute. I’ll let you take her. But I’m going to give you a court date. It’s a mandatory court appearance, alright?” the officer said to the bride’s driver.

The bride responded with a happy, “Thank you.” She eagerly waited to get back on the road and head off to her wedding. This was definitely a gracious move, as Florida law states that anybody driving 50 mph over the posted speed limit on a Florida highway could receive a felony charge.

Hopefully, the court date was worth the sacrifice for her and the driver’s safety. And I hope that driver got a raise and some paid time off. There was no follow-up on the bride’s big day, but she’ll certainly have an interesting story to tell to her future children.

It goes to show that you should always account for plenty of extra time to make it from one place to another, especially if you take traffic into consideration. For something as special as your wedding day, you never want an unexpected run-in with a cop or, even worse, to experience an accident that could have been prevented.
