By now, you should be familiar with Chromatic enemies in the game. These foes are usually a stronger variation of other Nevrons, with new mechanics, but great rewards. One of the toughest, and that’s not alluding to the enemy’s body, is the Chromatic Hexga in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This Nevron can deliver a lot of heavy-hitting attacks, shield itself, and even cancel all your damage if you aren’t fast enough. Since it is challenging to beat, we’ve made a quick guide to help you.
Chromatic Hexga Boss Guide

First of all, this is an optional boss that is in an optional area. To find the Chromatic Hexga in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you must unlock the ability to swim and then swim across from Stone Wave Cliffs. You’ll find a new area called Stone Wave Cliffs Cave. Follow the path inside the zone, and the boss will be at the end.
You’ll notice it has the same model as other Hexga enemies you’ve encountered before, but this one has new gimmicks that will make the fight more challenging. Here’s the strategy we recommend:
- Bring Lune, Verso, and Maelle.
- The boss will shield itself constantly. Attack it with Maelle’s Breaking Rules skill. It will eliminate all shields, letting your other party members damage it.
- Have Lune cast Immolate on the Hexga and then Thermal Transfer to gain AP.
- Verso will be there to cast Powerful and do damage.
- The boss has a crystal on its back that will go from white (weakest) to red (strongest). If the crystal turns red, the boss will become immune.
- Use Lune (with an Ice weapon preferably) to manually shoot the Hexga’s crystal. Shooting the crystal will weaken it to the point that the boss won’t be able to become immune.
- Usually, the rotation is: buff with Verso, break shields with Maelle, and shoot the crystal with Lune.
- Regarding the enemy’s attacks, they are somewhat simple. Its main combo will become more dangerous if the enemy has any shields, adding one extra hit per shield. Dodge accordingly.
- Beyond that, its attacks are easy to dodge, so just focus on the crystal.
If you’re struggling with the fight, equip Lune with a few healing skills. You could swap Verso out for Sciel if you don’t mind missing out on some buffs.
Once you defeat the Chromatic Hexga, you’ll obtain the Energising Revive (level 8) and Confident (level 8) Pictos.
