A Georgia couple went viral for what should have been the happiest day of their lives. Instead, they were met with a viral video that was deemed cringy and plenty of snarky comments on a video of their engagement. Now, the duo is speaking out with the behind-the-scenes story of their viral proposal video and giving the internet a little backstory about their relationship despite all of the negative feedback.
In the TikTok video, which has been viewed more than 85 million times, Georgia man Payton Chambers is seen on a dock surrounded by friends and family. He gets down on one knee and attempts to get the attention of his girlfriend, Faith Brock, by touching her side.
Instead of turning around, Faith, who was engrossed in conversation with another person, grabs his hand and pushes it away. Payton was left on one knee holding the ring box and looking a bit confused. He tried again, a second time, by grabbing Faith’s arm. His girlfriend then spun around with an annoyed look on her face to find Payton on bent knee.
Payton asked Faith, “Will you marry me?” She then responded with a “I will,” before he slipped the ring on her finger. A very minimal cheer rang out among the crowd before the video cut out.
Georgia Couple Goes Viral For Super Awkward Engagement Video
Of course, fans went wild for the video online, and had plenty to say about the viral clip.
“Do they know each other?” one person asked.
“The body language from everyone is sooo bizarre,” another stated.
“And the crowd goes…calm,” a third person wrote.
“That was the most unemotional, matter of fact proposal I’ve witnessed!” a fourth comment read.
“Worst proposal ever,” stated another TikTok user.
After the video went viral, the Georgia couple opened up about the experience to People Magazine.
“We’re both good,” Faith told the outlet. “It blew our minds.” She went on to explain what was happening right before the proposal.
“He jumps up behind me and grabs my side all the time,” Brock explains. “So I didn’t know he was trying to get my attention. I was talking to his aunt about pickleball — we were gonna play the next day,” she explained.
She also added the video cut off before everything really began to celebrate and look happy about the engagement.
“The video was just cut off early,” Faith said. “I was definitely smiling. We hugged. We kissed. We took pictures. It was exciting. I definitely wasn’t swatting his hand away,” she explained. “It was not as bad as it looked. I just hold his hand when he does that because I don’t think anything of it.”
Despite the newly engaged Georgia couple going viral for their awkward engagement, it seems that they’re happy and eagerly awaiting their big day. Of course, thanks to the video, they’ll always remember the proposal for earning them TikTok fame.
