While the Xbox Series X hasn’t exactly taken the market by storm, Microsoft has been making some bold moves recently. Making Game Pass available across more devices, announced that it will support the Switch 2, and the list goes on. However, something even bigger that might please classic Xbox gamers might be brewing. A recent job listing reveals Microsoft is hiring talents to help rerelease more Xbox games for other platforms like PS5. This could mean some of your old favorites might be making their way to new consoles.

Obviously, it doesn’t explicitly say the company is going to bring Halo or Blinx to Switch 2. Nevertheless, the job posting mentioned it is hiring for a Principal Software Engineer to ‘secure the future of Game Preservation.’ The job description entails working with ‘experienced emulation engineers’ and being ‘a key contributor’ on emulating ‘legacy games on modern platforms.’

Based on the job description, the team will be responsible for building the tech to emulate classic Xbox games to run safely, without bugs or cheats, on today’s consoles and future devices. Translation? It seems Xbox wants your OG and 360-era games to live forever, no matter where or how you play.

Speaking of Xbox 360 games coming to other platforms like the PS5, Microsoft has also announced that Gears of War: Reloaded is coming on August 26. The remastered version will hit Xbox consoles, PC, and yes, even the PlayStation 5. To make it even better, Ultimate Edition owners on PC and Xbox will get Reloaded as a free upgrade. If you’ve been following the console wars since the sixth generation, that sentence probably broke your brain.

Xbox has definitely shifted toward a ‘play anywhere’ mindset over the last two years. Game Pass being treated more like an ecosystem and the rumored Windows-based handheld only reinforces that direction. Add to that the surprising move to bring Xbox games like Gears of War: Reloaded and Forza to PlayStation, and it’s clear Microsoft wants your game library to follow you. Whether you’re on console, PC, or something new entirely.

So yeah, more 360 games on PS5 or Switch 2? At this point, don’t rule it out. Xbox seems more committed than ever to making its games available on more than one console.
