A dangerous manoeuver from an aerial work truck driver left residents in shock recently, when it collided with a set of power cables causing it to topple over on a busy street in Delaware. The driver seemingly forgot to lower the vehicle’s vertical lift, which was partially extended in the air. As a result, the elevated platform got caught on the power lines, which caused the truck to topple over onto its side.
Captured by a witness at the scene, the 44-second snippet of footage opens on a public highway in Delaware, and is accompanied by the description, “Only in Delaware😂” You can hear the person recording the clip repeating the words, “D*ckhead, d*ckhead” as he watches on in astonishment.
At the beginning of the video, you can see the white aerial work truck with its elevated platform partially extended in the air, and it’s clearly caught on some power lines above it. Instead of lowering the elevated platform, however, the driver attempts to reverse back a few metres, before trying to drive away.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to solve the problem, as the truck proceeds to topple over onto its side due to still being tangled up with the power cables. You can hear gasps of shock and horror as the truck tumbles and falls. In addition, you can also hear other onlookers criticising the driver’s choices by yelling things like, “He’s a d*ckhead!” and “What the f*ck!“
As the video continues to gain traction online, social media users took to the comments section to share their reactions to the dangerous clip. One Redditor joked, “Employee Review: Chad is not one to ever give up. We admire his persistence! A+” with another chipping in with, “Those are some tough cables“. Some believed that the driver may’ve been attempting to hijack the vehicle, writing, “That’s got to be an attempted car jacking. Anyone who drives a cherry picker knows to put the basket down.” Over on Youtube, a commenter theorised that the driver may’ve been intoxicated, “Nah he look drunk AF”
This incident serves as a timely reminder of the importance of maintaining awareness of overhead hazards when operating heavy equipment. At the time of writing, however, there’s still very little information online about what occurred during the dangerous incident, so it’s unclear whether anyone was hurt. But, one thing is for sure, the aerial work truck driver will have a lot of explaining to do when his employers find out about his questionable driving skills.
