Mother’s Day is typically a special day reserved for honoring and celebrating all the mother and mother-figures in our lives, so it’s usually a relaxing day spent with our loved ones. That wasn’t the case recently in Bishopville, South Carolina, however. Instead, a violent altercation broke out inside of a Dollar Tree between “two adult suspects and three juvenile suspects”, according to WIS10 News. The chaotic incident escalated quickly, leading to a car intentionally ramming a woman into the wall of the discount chainstore.
Two clips are circulating online, with the first taking place in the Dollar Tree store in Bishopville before the car accident occurs. While the tweet below claims that the incident transpired in “Greensboro, North Carolina”, this is in fact inaccurate, since Lee County Sheriff’s office and other news outlets have since confirmed that it actually occurred in Bishopville, South Carolina.
In the first video, we see two grown women in the midst of an angry physical altercation inside the Dollar Tree. The elderly woman on the left is wearing a black jacket, black leggings, and a black skirt, and the lady on the right is sporting a blush summer dress. They’re both wrestling with each other, with other witnesses looking on in astonishment. The woman in a light red dress manages to get the other in a headlock and proceeds to punch her in the side of her head, before other members of the public attempt to intervene.
That’s not the be-all-and-end-all of the altercation, however, as emotions intensify even further, leading to a bizarre vehicle collision. Specifically, a 17-year-old has been accused of deliberately crashing into the Dollar Tree store in an attempt to cause harm to one of the suspects in the initial altercation above. The footage reveals the moment the 17-year-old attempted to drive into the woman.
This clip is recorded from the perspective of a witness inside the store, and sees a vehicle dangerously collide with another teen, who is pushed onto the hood of the car due to the force. The vehicle then crashes through the Dollar Tree store wall near the entrance, causing the wall to crumble apart. Miraculously, however, the 15-year-old who was hit by the car manages to walk away as if unscathed by the accident.
According to WIS10 News, the 17-year-old driver was also charged with attempted murder, disorderly conduct and malicious injury to property and that the 15-year-old who was hit by the vehicle was “not seriously hurt.” In addition, there are “multiple people” who are facing charges, with police confirming that Celvin Hickman, 19, and Shamirah Blyther, 24, have each been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in connection with the brawl. Moreover, Hickman was also charged with malicious injury to property and the Sheriff’s office also said that three juveniles were arrested in connection with the shocking incident.
As the wild video spreads across social media, reactions have come in thick and fast. One Redditor couldn’t believe how the 15-year-old survived the collision, writing, “Pretty sure she’s gonna feel it the next day. She’s running on pure adrenaline.” with another adding, “Adrenaline does wonders. She’ll be carried to the emergency for not feeling her legs when she wakes up.” Another commenter, meanwhile, couldn’t believe how poor the construction material was at the Dollar tree, penning, “Those dollar store cinder blocks didn’t leave a scratch on that car 😆”
As the investigation unfolds, residents and local officials are calling for increased measures to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure the safety of all patrons in public spaces.
