In a tragic turn of events, a child almost lost their life due to the closure of Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvania, and an enraged nurse has spoken up about it.ย
A family drove to the hospital, urgently seeking care for their baby who had stopped breathing. Unknown to them, the hospital had recently been shut down. However, fortunately, a team of nurses present at the scene jumped into action and saved the babyโs life just outside the closed hospital.
Following the incident, the president of the nurses’ union, Peggy Malone, freely aired her raw and honest emotions about the near loss of life. The nurse spoke to a CBS Philadelphia camera crew, putting out a passionate plea that the hospitalโs ER be reopened.
โNot one child should ever die because those bastards closed our hospital. Because they never cared about the people in this community, but we do. And this is why weโve been fighting so hard, and someone has to open our ER now.โ
Malone further expressed gratitude, saying she was grateful to Jesus for the Pennsylvania medics who were fortunately around to save the baby. However, she also pointed out that no one saw how heartbreaking it was to witness the babyโs sibling crying because they were scared.ย
She added that the people in charge of making decisions do not see the โwhole pictureโ and called for Prospect Holdings to be held accountable. โIt has to stop now! Get our ER open now. Thereโs no reason that the ER is closed,โ she demanded through tears.
Several citizens on social media reacted to Maloneโs plea. One commented, โRighteous freak out from a righteous nurse โ,โ and another remarked, โSheโs right. Sheโs absolutely right. The medical system in this country is completely farked up and closing hospitals and other sources of healthcare just makes it worse and leads to people dying. We need to do better.โ
One user noted that America is the only country that โallows hospitals to go bankrupt and close. Makes zero sense.โ Others pointed out that citizens need to act by voting for credible candidates who will reform the healthcare system.ย
Notably, the Crozer-Chester Medical Center closed on May 2 after its owner, Prospect Medical Holdings, declared bankruptcy. As a result, over 2,000 healthcare workers are now out of jobs, and multiple people have lost their lives.
Taylor Hospital, also located in Delaware County and owned by Prospect Medical Holdings, was closed on April 26. Due to the closures, state leaders are now making efforts to reduce the stakes private equity companies can have in healthcare organizations.
