Utah Boyfriend ‘Moves In’ with Girlfriend & Her Family By Making Up Cartel Threat: ‘He Didn’t Know How to Stop the Lie’

Sounds like a plot for a Tarantino movie

Plenty of guys go great lengths just to keep the love of their lives, and some would even resort to desperate measures. One man from Utah, on the other hand, got a little too extreme with his plan to win over his girlfriend’s family after he made up a false cartel threat just so he could keep her and her family in a house in a lie that lasted for six months.

The man in question is none other than 23-year-old Dominic Garcia, and he apparently feared that he would lose his pregnant girlfriend and the approval of her family. Hence, six months ago, Garcia made up an emergency and claimed to his girlfriend and her family that the cartel was trying to kill him and that they were also involved.

The lie that Garcia told his girlfriend and her family was that “his grandfather did business with an organization referred to as the ‘unknown society'” which was a cartel that wanted to kill him. Fearing for Garcia and their safety, the girlfriend’s family believed him.

Garcia then holed up in his girlfriend’s family’s house, with the approval of her parents. The girlfriend’s dad even provided a 10 mm handgun to Garcia, which Garcia then used to “monitor” and “protect” the house every night. Garcia would even forbid most of his girlfriend’s relatives from leaving the house unless it’s for a short period.

“All the family believed they were trying to keep Dominic in line with the cartel or his unknown business and they had to do these things as a condition for his continued membership with the cartel.

Dominic said that he continued this lie for several months because he did not know how to stop it in fear that they would not like him,” according to the police affidavit, transcript courtesy of NBC.

Garcia’s detainment under the pretense of an absurd lie grew worse, and he even started punishing one of the family members with boot camps and ice baths after she texted a friend about the supposed “cartel” threat. One of the family members even missed a whole month of school because of Garcia’s lies.

All that Just to Move In

Eventually, the police caught wind of the matter when the family members couldn’t take it anymore. So they held Garcia at gunpoint and called the authorities. Thankfully, Garcia was arrested without incident and was promptly charged with seven counts of aggravated assault, seven counts of aggravated kidnapping, seven counts of hazing involving the use of a dangerous weapon, and seven counts of threat of violence.

According to the girl’s parents, they allowed Garcia to move in with them because he was dating their daughter and because she was also pregnant with his child. Dominic Garcia’s lies came to light immediately after his arrest, but his girlfriend’s family sadly still believes that a cartel is out to get them and is still traumatized.

Naturally, Garcia’s ridiculous and extreme attempt to keep his girlfriend and move in with her family in Utah has attracted some interesting discussions online, particularly from people in disbelief at the 23-year-old’s elaborate plot.

“I need to know more. Why did he start the cartel lie to begin with? How did the family know this guy before he move in? Why did they believe him for so long? What was the final straw?,” asks Mephisto1822

“Why not there’s a fake national emergency over the same thing right now,” jokes Capital_Sherbert9049

“Wow, I f***ed up a lot in my 20’s seeking people’s approval but I’m grateful I never f***ed up this bad,” recalls LeftyWithAGun
