If you want to see a candidate for the number one hater toward LGBTQ people, you could look at Steven Hotze. This Texas doctor has been a huge hater toward gay people, even going as far as to call them “termites,” “morally degenerate,” and “satanic.” He has always been quite active in politics and tried his damnedest to make the lives of gay people hell.
Back in the 80s, he tried to make landlords reject housing for gay people. Then the Texas doctor also supported various candidates who shared his views in Houston’s city council elections. Recently, though, he also began spreading hate toward trans people. He even supported a policy that would require teachers to inform parents should students decide to change their names or pronouns.
Now, in his latest stunt, he is trying to sue the federal government and attack the Affordable Care Act. His whole aim is to prevent LGBTQ people, especially gay people, from getting healthcare coverage for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). This is the medication required for HIV prevention.
This isn’t even the first time he’s done something like this as he has also tried to stop Obamacare. Unfortunately for LGBTQ people, this isn’t the only threat they’re dealing with. With the Trump administration leading America, the president and his allies are trying their damnedest to chip away at the hard work and great policies that protect and support common people. Causing funding cuts and attacking HIV prevention is just one of many ways they’re spreading their hate and selfishness.
Many people online who heard about the Texas doctor’s actions are far from amused. Many couldn’t believe how someone could be so hateful that they want to actively cause harm and pain to other human beings. One Redditor said, “Anyone using an ancient fairy tale book to make decisions that affect others is a delusional piece of human garbage.”
Others pointed out that if support for the ACA disappears, the Trump administration will likely use that to back projects aimed at harming LGBTQ people. One user wrote, “Don’t forget the billions of dollars that will be ‘invested’ in ‘conversion therapy.’ People will die and suffer without access to healthcare, but hey, aren’t you happy that LGBTQ+ people will be tormented in exchange? Many mourned how much progress has been lost in just one year. The fight to push back against such bigotry has felt like a Sisyphean task, and now it seems everything is falling apart.
