Topgolf Server in Washington, D.C. Spills the Beans on Workplace Mischief, ‘I’d Get the Manager to Comp It Off For Me’

There are always things happening behind the scenes at restaurants that work to bring customers a great atmosphere. At Topgolf, millions of visitors swarm to the golfing facility for fun games, social drinking, and good food. Now, a woman from Washington, D.C. is coming clean about how Topgolf servers rip off customers—and the business in which they work. Since sharing these secrets, others have spoken up and claim the same experiences happen at their workplaces.

TikTok user Keilani (@keilani.olivia) said in her video that she did things “as a server at Topgolf that I definitely should not have done” but added, “allegedly.” One of the first surprising aspects of her job as a server stemmed from the fact that Topgolf didn’t give her and the other servers free meals.

So, she said, she would “just ring under the food I wanted to eat under my tables.” She would then “intercept the food runners before I got to the table and be like, ‘You know what? I’ll just bring it to the table,’” but it would never make it to the customers. Instead, Keilani would eat the food in the break room and “get the manager to comp it off for me.”

Another trick she learned was how to successfully crash the computer systems on the job so that she could get off work early. However, there were other tricks that caused a lot more controversy in the comments of her video. Keilani claims she never did this one herself, but a popular thing for servers to do was to steal money from customers.

So how did they do it? She said, “If somebody paid their bill in cash, servers would comp off things before they ring in the cash, and then they would just pocket the extra cash.”

Keilani claims that she was “just not in the loop” and that “even the hourly managers were doing it.” Apparently, the industry as a whole has experienced this in the workplace, as commenters have noted. It shines a light on how very little pay people working in the service industry receive and the desperate measures they will go to for a little extra cash. However, as one commenter noted on TikTok, “Girl the last part that’s embezzlement.”

Another commented, “Yeah that last one happens at lots of places for sure, definitely a lot of places I have worked at… allegedly.” One other shared their surprising story: “A server at my job got fired for pocketing cash payments. He stole over $6,000 in like three months.”

Desperate times call for desperate measures, for sure. However, many people are struggling financially during these chaotic times and a customer shouldn’t have to fear being scammed out of cash just for having a little fun with friends or family. These shocking tales remind us to always be wary of where we spend our money and keep an eye on what we’re paying for.
