Prom night is supposed to be a time you never forget, filled with friends and laughter. For one group of New York teenagers, their prom night is going to forever be one for the books. The group jumped into action when they were heading home from their junior prom. By chance, they came across a family’s house on fire. Though nervous, this didn’t stop the teens from banding together to help. Their heroic actions on that memorable night have not gone unnoticed.

The teenagers, Tyler, Aiden, Morgan, and Donato, who are all juniors at a New York high school, were headed home from prom when they noticed something shocking. The students saw that a small fire had started inside a family’s garage but was steadily growing. Aiden told reporters, “It was literally exploding and it became huge within literally like a minute or two.” This didn’t stop the teens from acting.

Aiden approached the family’s front door to make sure the family got out in time. It was two girls and their dad. He grabbed the girls and ran across the street with them so that his girlfriend could comfort them. Meanwhile, the fire blazed on. Sodja said that the children were crying hysterically as she called 9-1-1 and gave the operator the home address for the family.

Maynard Fire Chief Jared Pearl was impressed by how quickly the teens were able to switch from having a fun night out to saving lives. He commented, “Without hesitation, Aiden stopped the vehicle and rushed to the home. The family was safely evacuated before flames could reach the main structure of the home. Thanks to Aiden’s leadership and the team’s quick response, a potential tragedy was averted.”

Tyler has said on the matter, “I think we were definitely all nervous.” But the fact that they stayed with, and even comforted while a house fire raged on, a family through this difficult time in their lives says it all. It also shows us that there is a lot of good in this world and people who are willing to help out even during the most challenging times!
