Etsy Witch Scams New York Woman Out of Potential Love, ‘She Literally DMed Him on Instagram and Exposed Me’

That’s a witch’s curse

You certainly have to keep an eye out for scammers everywhere on the internet. Even Etsy, where people sell really awesome stuff, isn’t 100% safe. For a woman in New York, she discovered too late that scammers can even be found in the coven. That’s right: One woman is speaking out after she was scammed by an alleged witch on Etsy, who took her money and left her in tears.

So much for supporting small businesses 😭 #etsywitch #lovespell #fyp #foryou

The victim of the scam, Corinne, shared her story in a viral TikTok video she posted on her account, @andtheg4gis. Corinne stated she was looking for services from a legitimate witch on Etsy—an ‘Etsy witch.’ if you will. Why? To cast a love spell on her crush. She was excited to find who she believed was an authentic witch who would take her crush’s name and birthday before working a spell.

Corinne’s excitement did not last for long, however. Instead, the ‘witch’ exposed her. Corinne went on to explain, “She literally DMed him on Instagram and exposed me. She sent him screenshots of everything I sent.” Though we don’t know how much Corinne spent on the services, there are many self-proclaimed Etsy witches who charge anywhere from $40 to $400 for services. Even amongst the coven, prices vary.

However, Etsy has instilled guidelines saying these services are explicitly banned even though they continue to pop up on the platform where handcrafted goods are typically sold. It’s a great place to find genuinely good art, but witch spells are forbidden.

Corinne, in tears, ended the video by saying, “So much for supporting small businesses.” TikTok viewers encouraged Corinne to take action after not only being scammed out of her money, but also being humiliated. One person wrote in response to her situation, “Genuinely, like, report that to Etsy, that’s so crazy.”

Another suggested, “Oh, she wanted your man bad.” Others, who also believe in witchcraft, offered her advice when it comes to love spells. One user commented, “Love spells are a bad idea so maybe this is a blessing in disguise.” My personal favorite: “GIRL DOUBLE DOWNN!! dm him n say “did it work?”‘ I don’t know about you, but I would’ve fallen for that.

Whether or not you believe in witchcraft, protecting your identity and finances is important when buying services online. If you see something that seems suspicious, take a moment to report it. Not only for your sake, but the next potential victim, too. What could seem like an innocuous, fun way to spend money could actually be life-altering, especially in the wrong hands.
