Eric Dane is speaking out for the first time since revealing his ALS diagnosis, and his words are both heartbreaking and hopeful. The Grey’s Anatomy alum recently confirmed he’s battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare and incurable neurodegenerative disease that progressively weakens muscles and impairs physical function. The news came just weeks after he and estranged wife Rebecca Gayheart, called off their divorce after seven years of separation. The couple shares two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.
In a new teaser for an upcoming Good Morning America interview with Diane Sawyer, Dane offers a raw glimpse into his current reality. The 30-second clip, released Thursday, shows the Euphoria star walking with Sawyer and reflecting on the day-to-day impact of his diagnosis. “I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening,” Dane says in the clip according to Daily Mail. “It’s not a dream.”
In one poignant moment, he’s seen holding Sawyer’s hand, his voice breaking with emotion as he wipes away tears. “I don’t think this is the end of my story,” he declared. “I don’t feel like this is the end of me.”

Dane first addressed his diagnosis publicly in April, releasing a statement that thanked fans for their unwavering support and acknowledged the strength of his inner circle. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” he wrote, adding that he feels fortunate that “I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of ‘Euphoria’ next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.” The hit HBO show also stars Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney.
Since his announcement, fans and celebrities alike have taken to social media to rally around the actor, sending messages of love, strength, and solidarity. “ALS is horrendous. I watched a dear friend go through this and die from it. It’s an insidious, cruel disease,” one commenter wrote.
